Progress on new Wyndham hotel (former Fallsview Inn)
The work sure seems to be coming along nicely where the Stanley Motor Inn and Fallsview Inn used to be. It is now going to be a Wyndham hotel.

N.F., Ont., inn gets new life as Wyndham
From Buffalo Business First:
The former Stanley Inn, once a landmark hotel on Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls, Ont., will be reborn as the city’s first Wyndham Hotel .
Local developers are investing $7.5 million to renovate it into a nine-story, 152-suite hotel that will open next year. Located in the city’s Fallsview business district, it is near the recently opened Scotiabank Convention Centre and also close to Fallsview Casino Resort. The Stanley Inn has been vacant for more than five years.
As you know, I have reported on the construction on this site for months. However, I had no idea it was going to be a Wyndham property. Why don’t these companies put signs up to get the name out there. I would have included it in every posting if I had known. Seems like a missed opportunity…

Part of the Stanley Motor Inn is gone
I have no idea is the hotel is closing for good, or if this is all they were doing, but the part of the hotel beside where the pool used to be was recently torn down.

Construction at Fallsview Inn on Stanley Avenue
Back in July http://twitpic.com/223lpeI posted a picture of a notice of a sign outside the Fallsview Inn on Stanley Avenue. There was a proposal for a 9-storey hotel. Well, reading this sign would have made me think that there was a new 9-storey hotel being build. Actually, it appears to just be an addition.

Opening set N.F., Ont. convention center
From Buffalo Business First:
Just a few days before the grand opening of the Scotiabank Convention Centre, Kerry Painter is able to finally get rid of her hard hat and steel-toed shoes as she walks around the building.
The 288,000-square-foot Niagara Falls, Ont. convention center is that close to opening.
Crews inside and outside the Stanley Avenue facility are spending the final days before the center’s official debut Friday afternoon focusing less on bricks-and-mortar issues and more on putting the final touches on the $100 million building that many believe will be a critical piece of Niagara Falls’ tourism and hospitality business.

Convention Centre nearly done
From Niagara This Week:
Kerry Painter has a busy week ahead of her.
As the president and general manager of the soon-to-be-complete Scotiabank Convention Centre, there are a lot of last minute details to tend to before the grand opening next Friday. The $100-million project on Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls is coming in on-budget and almost a full-month early. The early opening, Painter said, is because of the increased demand for the space. The new convention centre had already booked events before ground broke in May 2009, but as construction continue, spots kept filling up. She said grand opening plans kept getting moved forward, until it finally reached the April 8 date that has now been set.

Convention centre, Review’s owners form partnership
From the Niagara Falls Review:
A new partnership between the future Niagara Falls convention centre and the company that owns The Niagara Falls Review will boost the image of the city-owned facility scheduled to open next spring and add to its operating revenue, officials with both companies say.
The Niagara Convention and Civic Centre selected Sun Media, the company that owns the daily newspapers in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Welland, as its official media sponsor.
“It means a great deal. The NCCC coming into the Niagara region is about as exciting as it gets for the development of the region,” said Judy Bullis, senior group publisher for the Niagara Newspapers Group, a division of Sun Media.
The deal is an exclusive arrangement that will see Sun Media advertising staff sell the ads displayed inside the $100-million facility on Stanley Avenue.

Bodies coming to Falls
From the Niagara Falls Review:
The cure for Niagara’s tourism blues this summer might be a bunch of dead bodies.
If Linus Hand’s hunch pays off , they’ll come by the busload to see them. After months searching for the right venue, Hand is bringing the world-renowned Bodies … The Exhibition to the former Gerbers and Niagara Falls Tourism building at Stanley Avenue and Highway 420. More than 15 million people have viewed the exhibit.
The exact same show– similar to the Body Worlds exhibit seen recently in Buffalo and Toronto — opens at the newly-named Niagara Exhibition Centre May 28 and runs to Sept. 6.
“It’s artistic and entertaining, but it’s also educational,” says Hand, who co-owns the local theatre company Silver Mist Productions. “I’m over the moon about it.”
