Big shots, fancy cars: Here come the celebs

There will be eye candy galore for celebrity-watchers and gear-heads Friday when Hollywood celebs, music stars and sports figures roar into Niagara Falls as part of the Gumball 3000 London-to-New York car rally.
Actor David Hasselhoff, famous for his roles in Baywatch and Knight Rider is one of the tour’s regular participants, along with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk.
The celebrity-packed parade of high-end automobiles will stop at the Skylon Tower during the last leg of the eight day tour, the stretch from Toronto and New York City.
Gumball 3000 is a rally from London to New York, but it takes a different route each year. For the past 12 years, the rally has enlisted folks who live in the fast lane to drive cars like Lamborghinis, Ferrari, Rolls Royces and Bugattis. There are also novelty entries like the 1966 and 1989 Batmobiles and the A-Team van used in the movie to be released later this year.

Gumball 300 car rally coming to Niagara Falls
This comes from a press release I received from the Skylon Tower:
Look out…. ‘the world’s most rock ‘n roll car rally ever staged’ is coming to the Skylon Tower Niagara Falls, Canada!
On Saturday, May 1 the flag will drop at Waterloo Place on the Pall Mall in London following a day of celebrity entertainment, celebrations and skateboard demo by legend Tony Hawk and his skate team. From London the 3000 mile route begins… [with] stopovers in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm. From Sweden all 120 vehicles and participants are flown to North America to continue their journey stopping in Boston, Quebec and Toronto, before a pit stop and lunch at the Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls. From Niagara Falls they’ll head directly to the finish line in Times Square, New York City.

The whole family’s falling for Ontario
You know how sometimes local newspapers want to have you take a picture of you holding their paper in various places that their readers visit around the world? Well, The Record and The Herald News in Bergen County, New Jersey had someone send in a picture from their visit to Niagara Falls:
My grandchildren Nicole and Chris Boschetti are seen holding the Travel section on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. My daughter Barbara and I accompanied the grandchildren on a three-day stay in Ontario.
Tip: We recommend staying in the area at the Clifton Hill section, as there are so many activities there. Also, don’t miss the observation deck of the Skyline Tower.

Work being done at future Margaritaville
I commented before about how there is no sign (at the time of this posting) on the old Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant showing that Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville was coming this year. Even without a sign, it is obvious there is a lot of work going on. The building is almost gutted on the inside, a fence is around the outside, and part of the entrance roof of the Holiday Inn has been removed (which I assume is related to the restaurant).

Jimmy Buffett chooses Falls site for eatery
From the Niagara Falls Review:
The first Cheeseburger in Paradise to be sold in Canada will be right here in Niagara Falls, when Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville opens this spring.
And there’s a chance the restaurant’s famous namesake will show up at some point to perform there.
The eatery will be open year-round and feature live music, food and drinks. George Davidson, president of Margaritaville Canada, made the announcement outside the former Wolfgang Puck restaurant, where it will be based.
Just a reminder that someone left a comment way back in August telling us about this new restaurant. Don’t you love getting the scoop early?!

Margaritaville Canada Ltd. has signed a lease with the owners of the Skylon Tower to open the 14,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant on Fallsview Avenue, across from the Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort.
Margaritaville is scheduled to open by late spring or early summer, said George Davidson, Margaritaville Canada president and chief executive officer.
The restaurant is moving into the site of the former Wolfgang Puck’s Cafe, which closed last summer.
