Jamie Kennedy cooking up something different

As iconic Canadian chef Jamie Kennedy speaks, a gigantic ferris wheel rotates outside the window behind him.
Down the street is a bonanza of pretzels and candy apples.
Keep walking, and there’s a huge Frankenstein bursting through the roof of Burger King munching on a Whopper.
Is this really the place for fine cuisine? As far as Kennedy is concerned, it’s overdue.
“The key thing is to connect Niagara Falls to the region, gastronomically,” says Kennedy, in town Monday to announce a new restaurant in the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel.
The renowned chef, awarded the Order of Canada last year, will open Jamie Kennedy on the Falls on the hotel’s 14th floor in late November. There will be some surprises, he hints, but anyone who has been to either of his two Toronto restaurants will know what to expect: Local cuisine paired with local wines, served in unconventional ways.

Jamie Kennedy to open Niagara Falls restaurant
From the Toronto Star:
Jamie Kennedy is headed to Niagara Falls.
The Toronto chef will open a restaurant on the 14th floor of the Sheraton on the Falls in November.
Further details are expected Friday. Canadian wine writer Tony Aspler will be involved in wine selections.
The men will host a media reception about the restaurant on June 6 on the Fallsview Restaurant penthouse level. It’s expected that the existing restaurant will give up some of its space for Kennedy’s eatery.

DiCienzos buy two hotels

Niagara’s DiCienzo family has picked up two of the best views of the Horseshoe Falls after buying the Marriott Fallsview and Sheraton Fallsview hotels last week.
“We’ve been looking for acquisitions for a little while. This move seemed to make sense,” said Dino A. DiCienzo, one of four children of patriarch Dino DiCienzo Sr., now involved in the family business.
He wouldn’t disclose how much his family paid to buy them from the family of Cosmo Menechella, another Falls family in the hotel business.
But tax rolls at city hall list the 32-storey Sheraton Fallsview’s assessment at $51.9 million and the 30-storey Marriott Fallsview’s at $66.3 million. Property assessments are supposed to reflect what a property could be sold for on the open market, though sale prices can deviate from assessed values.
The transaction means the DiCienzos have added the two Fallsview area hotels to their holdings on Falls Avenue — the Crowne Plaza and Sheraton on the Falls, as well as the Skyline Inn and Hampton Inn on Victoria Avenue.

“SHERATON ON THE FALLS WORST HOTEL IN CANADA”
This was a complaint that someone posted to Complaints Board. The person is being charged almost a thousand dollars because the TV in their room didn’t work after they stayed there. I can’t speak for whether the person is telling the truth or not, but they didn’t voice any other complaints against the hotel.
I’ve never heard of this site before, so I did a quick search for Niagara Falls. There were 3 pages of results, but nothing else that really jumped out at me. There were several complaints against Priceline and/or Expedia, but the rest of them were generally random complaints about random businesses. I wonder if anyone ever gets any results from complaining on this site, or if it just a place for people to rant…

Galaxy Girl to Perform at the Falls Avenue Resort in Niagara Falls this Summer

The 20 acre Falls Avenue Resort is taking entertainment in Niagara Falls to new heights in June and July. Tina Winn, aka Galaxy Girl tm will perform death-defying stunts more than 127 feet in the air without the aid of nets or safety devices. Her unparalleled aerial performance and stunts are sure to dazzle guests young and old.
One of a few female daredevils in the World, Galaxy Girl begins her show by climbing up a 12 storey high pole to a trapeze 90 feet above the crowd to perform her signature version of the “daring young lady on the flying trapeze”, then continues up to 127 feet where she performs a variety of acrobatic manoeuvres including handstands and free stands while talking to the crowd below.

Canadian Forces personnel rappel from Sheraton-on-the-Falls Hotel

Tourists on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls watched in amazement, but for two members of Canada’s military, it was just another day on the job as they rappelled more than 100 meters down an outside wall of the Sheraton-on-the-Falls hotel.
It was all part of a demonstration that took place over the noon hour on Monday for those attending a three-day conference put on by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.
