From Niagara This Week:
There have been a lot of changes over the past few months at the Niagara Parks Commission and it seems the biggest are yet to come.
In addition to open meetings, a new chair and a new board member, at its latest monthly board meeting the NPC adopted a new governance structure. The new structure will oversee the operations of the Park system and its dedication to preservation and enhancement of Niagara Falls and those lands located along the Niagara River corridor.
“The effective governance and review of such an important organization as Niagara Parks requires that we continually evolve our ways of thinking and doing business,” said NPC chair Fay Booker. “In today’s complex and ever-changing economy, an effective oversight model is one that adapts with the times. I believe the changes we have made today will help guide our operations successfully for years to come.”

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Ontario has confirmed the minister has approved a five-year renewal of the special constable designations for members of the Niagara Parks Police.

Parks Police may get 11th hour reprieve from province
From Niagara This Week:
Niagara Parks Police may soon get a new lease on life — at least for five more years.
Just days before the 123-year-old police force faced being shut down, the Niagara Regional Police Services board voted last week to recommend to Community Safety and Corrections Minister Rick Bortolucci that the Parks constables have their status as special constables renewed for five more years.
The constables would also continue to be able to carry firearms. Bortolucci must still approve that status.
“We supported it and we sent it off to the minister last Thursday,” acting regional police board chair Doug Martin, said Wednesday. “We haven’t heard anything back yet; we’re expecting it soon.”

Getaway Guy: White Water Walk Getaway
From YNN Rochester (includes video):
Since the 1930’s, this classic destination has been taking visitors on an elevator ride down 230 feet to the edge of the mighty Niagara River. A well-constructed boardwalk allows you to stroll along at your own pace right next to the river with 2 opportunities to descend stairs to take you even closer.

Annual gorge wall clean up
From the St Catharines Standard:
Depending on how one looks at it, the great gorge can either be impressive or frightening.
For the crew in charge of the annual rock scaling operation along the great gorge wall on the Canadian side of the Horseshoe Falls, however, it’s the former.
“I don’t find it nerve racking at all,” said Gordon Rosa, a Niagara Parks employee who has been involved in the operation for the past 29 years.
“In fact, I find it very beautiful. The job itself, of course, is strenuous at times, but it’s a very interesting job.”
