Lots of damage around the rose garden in Queen Victoria Park
As I was out for a walk today, I could see some small branches here and there. However, once I got to the rose garden in Queen Victoria Park, there were 3 very large trees that had fallen over in the strong winds today.

Flowers along the Parkway
I’m sure some of the flowers will get damaged with the huge gusts of wind today, but this is what the Niagara Parkway/Queen Victoria Park area looked like yesterday. Nice!

Springs Flowers (in snow and rain)
It is great to see the flowers starting to come up along the Niagara Parkway, even if it is through the snow.
The snow is gone now, and some of the smaller flowers have opened.

Ice bridge takes shape under falls
From the Tonawanda News:
In the wake of bone-chilling temperatures over the past couple of weeks, Niagara’s top off-season attraction has formed below the falls.
The ice bridge, as it is known, was spotted Friday morning by Emil Bende, general manager of marine operations at the Canadian Maid of the Mist landing.
“It (the ice) was struggling to take shape the last few days,” Bende said, adding that even after it formed, some openings occurred a short time later.
“But now it’s solid, shore to shore,” he said, viewing the mid-afternoon scene.
I wonder if this is still true with the weather we’ve

Nice photos of Niagara Falls in Autumn 2010
Yesterday I walked along the Niagara Parkway next to the Falls and in Queen Victoria Park. I took a bunch of pictures. It was overcast, so the sky doesn’t look great, but the colours of the leaves look good. I should have probably taken these a couple of weeks ago to get some more leaves on the trees, but I just didn’t think about it. Unfortunately, in the last couple of weeks we’ve had a lot of wind, so most of the leaves are off the trees now.
You can see some of the thumbnails below, and the full versions in the Niagara Falls in Autumn 2010 gallery.

Summer 2010 is “over”… was it good?
I know that summer doesn’t officially end in this part of the world until September 21, but in this tourist area it might as well be over. The beginning of September and the passing of Labour Day makrs the beginning of school. That means that family vacations are no more. The weekends might still be busy here, but things are significantly slower during the week.
So, how as Summer 2010? It’s hard to get a good read on this. Admittedly, I haven’t contacted anyone who their input (I don’t think they’d give me an honest answer anyway), but my impression was that it was a better year that they’ve had the last couple. Here are a few of my own observations (including some comments I’ve made before):
- There often seemed to be a lot of people around
- There were more US license plates seen
- The weather was fantastic
- Apparently the motorcycle get-together, and the Elvis festival were not big hits
- The new Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville opened and always seems to have a decent number of people in it
- I didn’t go, but it sounds like the party for the opening of the Hart & Huntington tattoo shop was the place to be
Hopefully the last couple of years were the bottom, and with improved business will come even more growth. I assume that the new convention centre will only help…

Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf in Spring 2010
Like many of the attractions on Clifton Hill, I’ve been to Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf lots of times (perhaps a dozen). I went when it was located right on Clifton Hill (before Boston Pizza and the Great Canadian Midway came along), and have played it in its current location. I’ve always thought the grounds were nice, but for some reason this time I was very impressed. Perhaps it is just the age of the place, and the plants are maturing nicely, but it was gorgeous! We were there on a nice clear evening. It was still warm out (but not too hot in the shade), and there weren’t many people on the course.
I was also very impressed with the dinosaurs. I don’t think there are any new ones, but they look very good. I think I posted or tweeted last year that some work was being done on them. Well, whatever they did, the dinosaurs look fantastic. Of course, I don’t know what real dinosaurs look like, but these ones look pretty real.
If you haven’t been for a while, it may be worth another visit. Also, with the new course being built behind the Niagara SkyWheel, I don’t know if there will be then three courses, or if either Dinosaur Park or Galaxy Golf will be dismantled.
As always, you can see some of the thumbnails below, and you can see all of the full size images in the Dinosaur Park Miniature Golf in Spring 2010 gallery.
Note: There are now 3,038 images in 244 galleries.

The unoffical start to summer 2010
I guess this weekend and next constitute the unofficial start of summer. Yes, I know that summer doesn’t start until June 21, but traditionally, the Victoria Day and Memorial Day weekends are the first long weekends when the weather is warmer and people want to get out. The temperature is going to be great this weekend, but we could get some rain on Saturday. The long range forecast for next weekend looks good at this point.
Here’s to a successful summer full of fun times, good weather, and exciting developments!
