Travel group experiences the wonder of Niagara Falls
From The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, Tennessee):
Lauderdale County Commission on Aging hosted a trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto the week of June 19, with 129 folks heading north to Canada to view the awe-inspiring views of the falls.
The group enjoyed dinner atop the Skylon Tower, where the views of the falls are breathtaking. They visited the Welland Shipping Canal, Queen Victoria Park, the magnificent Casa Loma Castle and the lovely historical 19th-century Niagara-on-the-Lake, just to name a few of the exciting attractions visited. They enjoyed a refreshing ride on the “Maid of the Mist,” where everyone got a look at the falls up close. On the way home they stopped at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and shopped in Louisville, Ky., at the St. Matthews Mall.

Vacationing in Ontario: Family trip to Niagara Falls proves all wet — in a good way (with video)
From the News-Herald (in northern Ohio):
My oldest son, Nate, was dancing around his seat even before the dolphin, walrus and sea lion show officially began at the outdoor Marineland stadium.
His enthusiasm paid off.
The emcee chose 9-year-old Nate from the packed crowd and invited him on stage in the middle of the show to feed and pet the bottlenose dolphins.
Marineland was our first stop and one of the highlights of our family’s four-day, early June trip to Niagara Falls, Canada.

Great Experiences on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls
The Clifton Hill blog has a nice write-up about a photographer from Holland who came and visited, along with some links to some great pictures. Check it out!
A few weeks ago we were contacted by professional photographer Ken Cranney, who recently visited Niagara Falls with his wife Ina and son Riley. They traveled all the way from Holland and met up with some close friends, who drove in from New Jersey. Ken is actually a Canadian living in Holland while his wife and son are Dutch. They all converged on Clifton Hill’s World Famous Street of Fun by the Falls to kick off a fun filled weekend!

Going Our Way: A Canadian detour between Detroit and Washington
From the Washington Post:
A nine-hour drive with three children younger than 7 is not for the fainthearted, but Cathy Buffington and Don Badrak have a plan. The University Park couple, who’ll be driving from Detroit to Washington with their kids next month, want to veer off track for a few days in Ontario as long as they’re up north. High on their wish list: play time and family attractions in Toronto, hiking and parks of all kinds, especially water parks — or at least hotels with awesome pools.
Detouring via Canada will add about four hours to the drive home, but it’s well worth it for the chance to visit two primo family destinations: Toronto and Niagara Falls. Toronto in the summer is a delight, with enough activities to keep the gang busy for a week. And visiting the falls is one of those legendary experiences that the kids will remember for the rest of their lives. Plus they get to wear those cool yellow slickers. The only question: Stay on the Canadian or the U.S. side? More on that burning controversy later.

Best Road Trip..The Niagara Parkway
From Nile Guide (including pictures):
When I think of Niagara Falls and its tourism industry I automatically think of two words; road trip. It really is the perfect spot to venture to for a quick weekend getaway from reality, as it is just a hop, skip and jump over to the United States border and an hour drive from the great city of Toronto. Thus is it safe to assume that those who venture to Niagara Falls are looking for a way to get the kids out and running around after the four hour drive from your home town (or twenty minute drive from down the road).

Falling for Niagara Falls in a big way
From Canada.com:
Like Disneyland, Drumheller and a drive across Canada, Niagara Falls is one of those vacations on the familial bucket list.
Renowned for a century as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World,” Niagara Falls is today built for families, offering accommodations, attractions and package deals much more in tune with nuclear families than newlyweds. Sure, you’ll still catch sight of dewy-eyed, drenched lovebirds cooing to one another on the Maid of the Mist bow, but more often than not they’ll be surrounded by screaming and soaked kids and parents.

Rediscover the falls in spring

As we reawaken to spring and remember all the things we can do outside while wearing lighter clothes—and maybe even sunglasses—one activity still feels a couple of months away:
A day trip to our own international tourist attraction.
Think again.

Niagara, beyond the falls
From the New York Post:
Fame can be a real pain. Take Niagara Falls, for instance. The stuff of legend. Even if you’ve never set foot on the Rainbow Bridge and gazed down on the majesty with your own eyes, you’ve probably got an opinion about the place. You probably think you know it. The tourist traps, the heart-shaped Jacuzzi tubs, a place trading on the faded glory of a time when people couldn’t get further away from home, faster.
Never mind, of course, that we are talking about one of the most impressive natural wonders of the West. Never mind that the falls themselves are merely the famous cherry sitting atop the tasty, tasty sundae that is the Niagara region.
Never mind that this region is one of the most desirable destinations in the Northeast. Really, it is: Sitting between two Great Lakes (Ontario and Erie), the Niagara boasts not one, but two great wine-producing regions (one among Canada’s best; the other a hidden New York State gem), world-class theater and music for months out of the year, plus outstanding little towns like Niagara-on-the-Lake, Lewiston, Youngstown, Queenston, with their great restaurants and cool places to stay.
Even still, to many people, the entire region remains some sort of retro-kitsch joke. Ha ha ha. Niagara Falls.
One one hand, that’s insane. On the other, who cares? Maybe it’s good that too many people’s minds won’t be changed. More room for the rest of us.
