Mac’s convenience store almost ready to open

The new Mac’s convenience store location (former 7-Eleven) is almost ready to open. The gas bar is in place, the store looks stocked, and the parking lot has one layer of pavement on it.

First Mac’s sign up at new convenience store

The Mac’s convenience store/Shell gas station that will be opening at the corner of Stanley Ave and Ferry St is coming along. The other day the big Mac’s sign went up on the building.

Mac’s convenience store gas station

I had posted previously that the underground gas tanks at the new Mac’s convenience store location (former 7-Eleven) at the corner of Stanley Ave and Ferry St were being taken out. I was wrong. It turns out they are just cleaning them up. The 7-Eleven used to have a Beaver gas bar with it. I missed this before, but the Notice of Application I posted before, says that a Shell gas station will be there.

That’s interesting. There used to be a Beaver gas bar not too far from where I live, but it closed and became a Shell as well. I didn’t realize that Shell owned the Beaver name. I wonder if most/all are going to change from Beaver to Shell.

Another souvenir shop has closed

This souvenir shop on Ferry St is now closed (I’m not sure how long it has been closed for). As you can see, they went bankrupt.

Construction at new Mac’s convenience store

I haven’t been by for a few days, but the former 7-Eleven location at the corner of Stanley Avenue and Ferry St was coming along nicely. I’ve posted before that it is becoming a Mac’s convenience store. They have dug up the parking lot and taken out the gas tanks that were there. There has also been a sign up about a Notice of Application. They want to put a sign up that will be closer to the road than it is supposed to be.

The ‘Holiday’ has arrived for downtown Niagara Falls

From the Niagara Gazette:

Mark Rivers is calling it the “anti-mall.”

While thousands of eager shoppers will be running through department stores and retail outlets Thanksgiving night and early Black Friday, the man behind the new Holiday Market in downtown Niagara Falls is encouraging his customers to take it easy, avoid the rush and get down to Old Falls Street whenever they feel good and ready.

“We’re not open Thanksgiving night,” said Rivers, whose firm, Brix and Co., has put together the city’s inaugural 37-day holiday event. “Sleep in on Friday and enjoy a family fun and shopping day in the Falls.”

The Falls version of a winter wonderland officially opens at noon on Friday. Billed as an American take on outdoor markets traditionally found in Europe, the Falls market will feature a mix of retail offerings, live performances and holiday activities.

New signs by Rainforest Cafe

The plaza in front of Rainforest Cafe on Clifton Hill still doesn’t look that great. The old WWE building is still there with WWE signs. Well, Canadian Niagara Hotels had some of the signs replaced the other day.

Queen Street Retail video

Regular visitor Dan let me know about this.

queen street retail video screengrab 450x274

It isn’t in the main tourist districts of Clifton Hill or Fallsview, but downtown Niagara Falls (Queen Street) is becoming more of a destination for people. I’m not sure exactly who is in charge of what, but a group out of Maryland has created a marketing video for the district to attract developers and tenants. You can see it on YouTube or below:
