Toronto casino would be ‘totally inappropriate’: Craitor
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Is it just hogwash from hogtown?
Only time will tell.
Recent media reports out of Toronto that Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. plans to recommend a casino be built in Toronto have some Niagara Falls businesspeople and politicians nervous.
Provincial government officials insist the 2005 moratorium it placed on building new casinos has not been lifted.
In an e-mail response to The Niagara Falls Review Tuesday, a spokesperson for Ontario Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said the minister will not “speculate” whether or not Queen’s Park will alter its moratorium stance until it sees OLG’s report on the future of gaming in the province.

Pacino at the casino: ‘Cool … very cool’
From the Niagara Falls Review:
It wasn’t a concert. It wasn’t a comedy show. It wasn’t really a performance. No, it was exactly what the posters promised: An evening with Al Pacino at the casino.
And for a thousand-or-so of the film legend’s fans, that was all they needed Thursday night.
“Cool … very cool,” said the 71-year-old Oscar winner after he was greeted by a standing ovation. “I think I’m gonna have to go now!”

Make new entertainment centre all-ages: city council
From the Niagara Falls Review:
A new 7,000-seat entertainment centre, planned to be built adjacent and connected to the gaming floor at the existing Fallsview Casino, should not just cater to adults and gamblers, say city council.
The venue, expected to host national and international-scale concerts, as well as sports and entertainment events, should also be open to younger people who might want to catch certain shows, say local politicians.
“It should be an all-ages venue, not just for those 19 and older,” said Coun. Carolynn Ioannoni. “It should be accessible to teenagers.”
Ioannoni was backed by her council colleagues this week when her motion was approved to “send a strong message” to the company managing the city’s two casinos that the new facility be family-friendly.

EDITORIAL: New concert venue at casino seven years overdue
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Although the announcement of a 7,000-seat entertainment centre at the Fallsview Casino is seven years late, it’s definitely a case of better late than never.
It’s never really been a question of should the casino build a larger entertainment complex, but why the heck didn’t they do it in the first place.
At a press conference Wednesday, casino representatives said they had wanted to increase the facility size for a number of years and commissioned a feasibility study for the project.
A look at the numbers released by the casino reveal something we all knew: This needs to happen here.

New multipurpose venue for casino?
From the Niagara Falls Review:
Details on a proposed new entertainment facility will be revealed Wednesday during an announcement at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.
Clare Copeland, CEO of Falls Management Company, will unveil results of a strategic study regarding the major new venue starting at 1 p.m.
The announcement comes on the heels of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati stressing the need for a new entertainment centre, saying it’s one of the city’s priorities over the next four years.
“It’s something whose time has come,” he told The Review in February.
