Marineland jingle McNeil’s biggest hit
From the Niagara Falls Review:
She may not visit often, but singer Suzie McNeil and Niagara Falls are now forever linked.
Singing one of Ontario’s most familiar commercial jingles will do that. Come summertime, it’s McNeil’s voice you hear on TV telling you — over and over — everyone loves Marineland.
“It’s pretty incognito,” she says. “Sometimes, we bring it out live, and I always say at the beginning, ‘Th is is my biggest hit.’ It gets played the most, that’s for sure.”
Don’t be surprised if it makes an appearance Wednesday, when McNeil plays the Greg Frewin Theatre. Along with plenty of tunes not about beluga whales.

FREWIN PART TWO: Magician can make crowds appear
From the Niagara Falls Review:
The whiff of free magic and being on TV has them lining up early.
The show doesn’t start until 6:30 p. m., but by 5 p. m. the lobby is already starting to fill up at the Greg Frewin Theatre. Before they enter, they’re greeted by a sign telling them they will be filmed tonight: “If you attend this event, your image may appear in the production and you hereby give consent to the use of your image.”
For many, that’s the reason they’re here. Two kids decked out in Greg Frewin T-shirts have already seen the show. But mention being on TV, and their eyes light up.
Frewin’s CBC special will take three weeks to film, and this is one of the biggest nights. A good crowd is crucial. A good-looking crowd is equally important. Organizers seat some of the more ‘camera friendly’ patrons near the stage, where they’re more likely to be filmed.
Hats and shirts with corporate logos are a no-no. A greeter asks everyone to smile. A lot.
Oh, and don’t look at the cameras.

Greg Frewin’s grand illusions
From the Niagara Falls Review:
After 90 minutes of delays, Greg Frewin is finally ready to make stuff disappear.
His doves are in place. The lights are finally working. The TV cameras flip on. He takes his place at centre stage, where he’ll film the day’s first illusion in front of a crew that has already had a long day.
“Can we get some smoke?,” he asks one of the backstage staff.
Thirty seconds pass. “Smoke?,” he repeats.
“Not working,” a voice answers behind the curtain.
Frewin has kept it together all morning, but this time he’s furious. He stomps off stage and returns a minute later, explaining why the smoke machine won’t work because someone piled a bunch of material on it.
“I don’t know why people can’t not put stuff on top of it,” he mutters. “A $10,000 machine …”
You should read the rest of the article… it’s very good. I’m looking forward to the other two parts.
