Brick City in Spring 2010 (pictures and videos)

A couple of weeks ago I went with my family to Brick City on Clifton Hill. I’ve been there a few times before, and I wasn’t that keen on going, but both of my sons really wanted to go. Even though I had seen almost all of it before, it was still good to go. I’m not sure how often new pieces are added, but there were several scenes that I hadn’t seen before. Also, there is so much to see, that you definitely won’t catch it all the first time you’ve been. Most importantly to me, my kids love Lego, and so they loved going and seeing everything.

As always, you can see some of the thumbnails below. You can see the full size images in the Brick City in Spring 2010 gallery.

Note: There are now 3,006 images in 242 galleries in the Niagara Falls Image Gallery.

I also created a video showing the room and some of the scenes. It was filmed in HD, so be sure to look for that option when you view the video on YouTube. I’ve also embedded the video below.

Power of thought to control Niagara Falls lightshow

From TGDaily.com:

Visitors to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver next week will be able to control lightshows at major landmarks by the power of thought alone.

Toronto-based InteraXon has invented a headset that picks up the user’s alpha and beta waves and translates them into commands.

“We’re like interpreters fluent in the language of the mind: our system analyses the frequency of your brainwaves and then translates them into a control signal for the computer to understand,” says the company.

The system will be used to control lightshows at Toronto’s CN Tower, Ottawa’s Parliament buildings and Niagara Falls.

Brain Wave! Mind Control the Falls

Toronto tech company InteraXon were thinking up new ways to expose their mind-controlling technology to everyone. One of their ideas was to make a brainwave sensor that feeds off brainwaves to create music, or a heat lamp. The Ontario government rebutted that idea and suggested this new innovation that would spark tourism. Visitors at the 2010 Olympics [...]

Niagara Falls aquarium plan sunk?

From the Niagara Falls Review:

Plans to build an aquarium in Niagara Falls appear to be a casualty of tougher American travel regulations, now that Ripley Entertainment is gearing up to build one at the base of Toronto’s CN Tower.

Canada Lands Company, which owns the CN Tower, picked Ripley last year as its partner to develop three acres of unused property near the base of Canada’s tallest building.

Ripley had plans for years to build an aquarium near Great Wolf Lodge, a resort also owned by Florida-based Ripley Entertainment, the company famous for its Believe it Or Not attractions. But in 2007, the company shelved those plans.

That’s when tourism operators got nervous about the effect the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative would have on the number of Americans visiting Canada. That rule requiring American citizens and foreigners to show a passport or other secure document when entering the U.S., came into effect in 2009.

“The one at Great Wolf Lodge has been put on hold for right now. It’s still on hold. It’s still on hold for exactly the same reasons,” said Ripley spokesman Tim O’Brien.
