Gale wants unbiased NPC investigation
From Niagara This Week:
The list of people to turn to is short, and getting shorter for Bob Gale in his ongoing push for what he considers a proper investigation of the Niagara Parks Commission.
As a former commissioner, Gale has spent the last few years crusading for change at the arms-length agency of the provincial government that is responsible for overseeing the parklands and attractions surrounding the Niagara Parkway. It was Gale’s complaints about the untendered lease of the Maid of the Mist boat tour operation in 1998 that started the ball rolling on a number of changes to hit the commission, including the most recent provincial overhaul there.

Competition for boat tour operator evolving, NPC says

The Niagara Parks Commission will keep tweaking its process for picking a boat tour operator while it moves toward a Nov. 24 target deadline for companies to submit their bids to run Niagara River boat tours, general manager John Kernahan says.
A month after the provincial agency launched a competition that could sever the historic ties with the Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co., former commissioner Bob Gale said he’s worried the process is “slanted” in favour of the company that has run tours for years.
“I’ve received numerous phone calls from people involved in this about how outrageous this is, and that it’s slanted in favour of the incumbent (Maid of the Mist),” Gale said in an interview.

For the first time in years, the Maid of the Mist will have to fend off competitors to hold onto the right to run boat tours in the Niagara River.
Ontario Tourism Minister Monique Smith announced Wednesday the Niagara Parks Commission will solicit competing bids from companies interested in leasing the property needed to provide the tours.
“For once, the taxpayers have won. It’s unbelievable,” said Bob Gale, the former commissioner whose concerns about the attempt to renew the lease in 2008 led to a year and a half of intense scrutiny for Niagara Parks.
