This summer of 2010 I get to celebrate new beginnings. For the next six weeks I’m in the GTA (Toronto Area) having adventures and spending time with some of my oldest and dearest friends. Amna & Ali’s wedding will be at the end of the month and until I head back home on August 4th, I’ll be putting up pictures and documenting some of my adventures as a tourist here in Southern Ontario.

In honour of Avalon’s birthday (yes, any excuse to get away!). The girls & I went away for the weekend to good ol’ Niagara Falls. Yes, we love going there! It’s only about a 40 minute drive away. It was incredibly busy with “wall to wall children” – I even asked at the front desk if there was a “children’s convention” in town. Nope, just the long weekend with families coming out in droves to Niagara Falls.

I’ve only been here once in my life possibly almost 20 years ago. I can barely remember it. All I remember is my mom holding and watching me closely when i was a naughty brat child not letting me run all around causing touble ha. I really had a good time this weekend spending time with mom and relatives.

We weighed out our options for a long weekend away: Toronto, Niagara Falls, Camping Trip. We’d done TO a few times before, so we weren’t super-excited about another stay at the SoHo. We also don’t own any camping equipment and have a tendency to get lost in unmarked areas. That left Niagara Falls, a place that against all appearances is supposed to be one of the most romantic in the world.

Canadian Road Trip: Niagara Falls, Ontario
Someone with a Blogger blog posted about a recent trip to Niagara Falls:
Finally arrived in Niagara Falls, the best city ever. The city was named after a curved water fall. I did not get the point of watching water fall down on some rocks at first, but it’s much more interesting actually to see it. From the viewing areas you can feel the mist trickle against your face.
Note: The site says it is from July 2010, which obviously isn’t true. Since the person went on Maid of the Mist, it can’t be something that just happened, so I assume it was in July 2009.

Niagara Falls is a popular tourist site for over a century, and it is the second largest falls on the globe next to Victoria Falls in southern Africa. Niagara Falls attracts some 12 Million tourists to her majestic awesome beauty each year.
It is a place for being thrilled or soaked amid natural splendour.
The site looks like it has just grabbed content from elsewhere, but there is still some good (but basic) information.

2 Days @ Niagara Falls!

After a fab little free city tour on my shuttle to my hotel (free because it was a airport shuttle that went via niagara fallsview and I didn’t get dropped off first- again, no complaints here!), I arrived at my palace of choice that would comfort me for the next 3 blissful days! I chose this hotel, the Doubletree Fallsview because I didn’t want to stay in an ordinary looking run of the mill hotel. This was built as a Canadian Mountain Lodge Spa Retreat! Complete with Aveda Day Spa, jacuzzi and friendly service (ooh and the fab little free choccie cookies you get when you check in – so good I got extras!)…

Another slow week (or more) of posting
I’m on vacation again now until about 10 days from now, so there probably won’t be a lot of postings. Actually, I do have a fair number already scheduled (including this one), so you might not even notice I’m gone
While I’m off, I will be doing a couple of Niagara Falls-related things. On the night of the 15th my family is staying at the Doubletree. We’re looking forward to it. Also, sometime while I’m off I’ll be hooking up with regular blog commentor Adam who runs SocialMediaNiagara.com for an interview. Fun!
